Is This A ’10/10′ Season For the Reds?

Steven-Gerrard_3021161Liverpool are currently enjoying their best ever season (in terms of points, at this stage) in the Premier league, but how do we measure success in a successful season?

If we rated the first month of action we would certainly give the team a 10/10 ranking as we won 3 games and kept 3 clean sheets without our main attacker in the team.  This was definitely a 10/10 performance if we compare it to the last 5 years and the starts we had in that time. In those opening 3 months, Liverpool were building up to a grand challenge, a season long performance of quality, expectancy and powerful attacking play, but did they know this?

The answer simply put, is no. They couldn’t have.  As Luis Suarez came back into the team he made an immediate impact, blowing away almost every team he played against.  The whispers were silenced, and the question was answered.  Which question you ask? The question: Does Liverpool still need Luis Suarez? Yes, sadly, many fans thought we didn’t need him as he was serving out the remaining 6 games of his ban (after a summer of angling for a move), and since his return he has been simply electrifying!

With the emergence of SAS, and the ever present Captain fantastic, Liverpool managed their best start to a season in the opening 15 games.  This was undoubtedly a 10/10 performance across 15 games with the team showing that they were getting better and better under Brendan Rodgers.

With fantastic performance after fantastic performance they were constantly reminded that this is the Premier League and you cannot take your foot off the gas for even a minute, as the draw to 10-man Newcastle proved and the shock 3-1 loss to Hull. Liverpool bounced back immediately though, and with the way they bounced back, the effort, resilience, team spirit and shear willpower they offered, this “work ethic” in their performances can only be given a 10/10 rating.

Then came December of 2013, with Luis Suarez setting a new goal-scoring record by scoring 10 goals in a month.  Fast-forward to January and Feburary and then Daniel Sturridge took over Suarez’s mantle, setting a goal-scoring record for Liverpool FC for scoring in consecutive games and helping Liverpool to remain undefeated (in the league, at least) in 2014.  Scoring goals at an alarming rate and playing a brand of football which is very pleasing to the eye, (lets not mention our defensive frailties as I’m on a roll.. ) this has definitely been a 10/10 display thus far, since the turn of the year.

But, is Liverpool a 10/10 team? With 10 games remaining, time will tell.  If we win all 10 games then I have no doubt we will win the league. This year certainly has a 2005 champions league winning team feeling to it, so that is eminently possible. Everything’s going our way (with the exception being Howard Webb) and the feel of a dramatic late hoorah and late, late win in a key game is present.

This season definitely has a “record-breaking finish” feel to it, as well.  It may just be that we have to beat Newcastle at Anfield on the last day to secure the title; the winning goal being down to a penalty (won by Luis) in the 94th minute to win the league, and up steps Captain Fantastic. It feels like it’s written in the stars.  I can see this happening and can certainly see Stevie G being up for the challenge, whilst millions of fans (their hopes and dreams on his shoulders) watch on.

If this all comes to pass, I couldn’t think of a better man to take us to a 10/10 season.

Regardless of how many games left, you have to say, even if we fall at the wayside, this season has been amazing. I can’t see us not finishing top four. I suspect Arsenal will beat Tottenham, as usual and never had any dreams of us winning the league so have nothing to lose if we don’t pick up the trophy. Sure it would be nice and in no way will it be a failure to not win the thing. 10/10 in my book.

What do you think @Realist, @StevieG, @FSG out, @Erin and many many more doubters and non blivers…… lol

Looki think LFC must have the guts to go on, Playing United the weekend , nothing less than a win will do, if we draw or lose then we are playing for 3rd 4th spot nothing more. That too would be a great result as top 4 was tthe objective and if this achieved then certainly with some investment into the curent team , additions and maybe 1-2 minor changes to the team i thinkwe could have an even bigger go at the title next year.
