Love Liverpool, Hate England

1000x6957When I was a kid there was nothing as important as England (at the time referred to as Engerland).  I remember the passion and the hurt we’d feel as faithful followers.  I remember going to school when we’d drawn against Sweden in 1995.

My friends and I were very upset and our media studies teacher said “we won!”,  so we corrected him and informed him England had lost at which point he explained ‘we’ actually referred to Sweden.  We hated him for that (he’s forgiven now, of course!).

The kids I work with seem to not care about England.  And now, after years of disappointment and false dawns, I don’t care either.   See England as a nuisance that distracts us from the business of club football.  Sven-Göran Eriksson started the rot and his great work has continued through the years.  Now, England unlike Germany, Spain, Italy and many other teams, feel as though they have lost their soul.

Roy Hodgson, in my opinion, is also a poor manager.   Whilst Brendan Rodger’s sterling work with established – as well as young – players only makes our Roy look even more pathetic.  Roy’s Liverpool were dire and his England aren’t much worse!  We’ll never see any ‘champagne’ football during the stewardship of Roy’s safe hands.

As I watched the first half of England v Denmark (a ‘friendly’ game) I was outraged.  Where once there was pride at seeing Liverpool players in the starting 11 now there is fury.  What if they get injured or tired or use up their good fortune?!

If I ruled the world I’d want all Liverpool FC players to retire from international football at the age of 17.  Luckily for all – including me – I don’t rule the world (just in case you were unsure).  There are 5 players in the first team and I wish they were all at home relaxing, preparing for Liverpool’s game against Manchester United.

Why did Gerrard and Johnson play the whole match? Does Roy need to learn something about them? And when Daniel Agger fouled Jack Wilshere was I the only one hoping Jack would be injured enough to miss a few games for Arsenal?

The only upside is at least no Liverpool player was injured and Sturridge kept up his excellent scoring record! Although, unfortunately, that may mean he’ll play more games for England!

How do you feel about England? Am I the only one with mental scars, or have we just grown up and realised the business of football may be losing its’ soul but team England lost its soul long ago?

So should we do away with team England and make way for team GB?

An armchair fan who loves the stadium experience but likes the bread and butter of replays, moronic pundits, a drink in a pub atmosphere. LFC is my religion.

Common sense is missing from football but the situation is always complicated so I endeavour to give opinion and encourage discussion and thought about LFC.

Spot on. The best football is played by the top club teams, not international teams. Liverpool are better than any international team. England would be a mid-table premiership team. Watch good football. Watch Barcelona, Bayern, liverpool and Man City.

    Agreed all round.
Roy is a crap manager, he’s not even average.

If Harry redkapp were in charge I’m think I’d feel differently about England though if I’m honest.

Arry was everyone’s first choice. I hope Wroy going to England saved LFC some money. Otherwise there is a serious lack of silver lining!!

if we had a match this weekend then I might have been botched but come on we have a 10 day break . I really don’t think the players will be suffering from fatigue

roy had a clean image, just what the fa were looking for in an england manager.

Very sorry about Jack Wiltshire great player, Agger should be looked in for that foul it looked real bad, still not sure if it was done on purpose and Agger is not known for that but it looked very bad and I hate to see that.

Glad we got rid of Charlie Adams very dirty player.

England FC has been difficult to watch always and as soon as we have to take penalties it’s over, but this is the first time we have more than one forward that can score ever and I hope the other teams don’t try to cripple our players like they have done every time we are in the world Cup.

Sadly and this has always been the case we cannot play in hot climates we wilt every time.

Also every team that plays us, plays like it is the Cup Final they play harder against England FC than any other team, it is an honour of the highest degree for the other teams to say they beat England FC, we try our best Gerrard nearly killed himself at the last one and That effing Scott made sure Rooney was ruined by overplaying him at Manure.

I was born and raised in Liverpool and I now live in Canada, watch every game even go to the pub on Sunday with my mate who was from Jamaca and we shout at the Telly with the other supporters from both sides, ours and thiers, it’s great fun.

Roy is a good International Manager he is ajusting and learning, he just wasn’t the Manager for LFC, he is doing great with England FC, when they have the 5 weeks to actually play together I think if they can acclimatize to the heat and score the goals in the first half and then sit back and hold the lead and counter I think they will be fun to watch.

Liverpool first, England FC second and Canada for Hockey, and Toronto FC now they have a team for the first time.

I actually thought it was wilshere that fouled agger, not the other way around. Looked to me that wilshere kicked him and got the worst of it, his own fault IMO

      • Fitzy says:

Yeah, I reckon Agger got the ball and the dwarf connected with Agger’s foot. Wancshire is is snide, dirty player who leaves his mincing size 5s in all the time. This time the payback is on him, the time off will allow him to get through a few packs of B&H though, cough, cough!

So it wouldn’t matter to you guys if we hadn’t qualified for the world cup and had to watch spain, brazil, argentina, germany et al playing in the biggest competition in world sport without us? The national team is king in those countries. It isn’t here. We are more concerned with taking their players for our clubs, making them better and then watching them laugh at us when they win things and thank us for giving their players lots of game time whilst denying our english lads playing time. Pathetic attitude you guys have

  • MAgic man says:

How roy got the england job before harry i’ll never no. He made a complete shambles of liverpool job on the other hand harry was doing a great job at spurs. Then spurs got rid of harry cause he said he would have took the job. Spurs finished in top four that year yet they sacked harry, it wasn harrys fault chelsea won champions league that year. England would have been really good team to watch under harry but them tits in the fa have not got a clue when it comes to football.

  • Ben says:

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:
