England-v-Chile-Adam-Lallana-pa2_3036242There are many players that could play for LFC and one who has caught my eye in recent months is Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana.  He has showed in his performances for his club, and even last night against Denmark, that he has the ability but also the creative spark which is what Brendan Rodgers is looking for.

You only had to look at his performance against us last Saturday, especially in the first half, how assured he was on the ball but also how he was moving in between the lines, creating the space for the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert to run into.  He was very unlucky not have scored in the game when his shot hit the post.

“Adam works very hard every day and little by little he is showing the amazing talent he has. He is a brilliant player. “

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino regarding Lallana

For me he would complement our group of midfielders and would offer something different for us if were operating in a midfield three. His overall contribution in games is excellent: his ball interception and dribbling skills are very pleasing on the eye, along with his finishing – he certainly has an eye for goal.  As well all his offensive duties Lallana also puts in a defensive shift.

As you can see from the statistics so far this season (via www.squaka.com) he has played a vital role in resurgence of Southampton in the Premier League:

adam-lallana

The above diagram shows exactly where about on the pitch Adam scored his 7 Premier League goals. He has scored 5 with his right foot, 2 with his left foot.

Lallana’s playing style is based on fast interplay with teammates, using his technique and vision to circulate the ball quickly and thus create space.  It is perfectly in tune with what Liverpool are trying to achieve under Brendan Rodgers.  He also demonstrates the ability to actually beat a man when surging forward.

It was good to watch Lallana’s link up play with both Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard in the friendly against Denmark.  In fact, Sturridge’s goal on 82 minutes was after Gerrard had passed to Lallana and his cross was pinpoint straight to Daniel to head home.  This is something which he has done all season for Southampton.

I feel he would be a great addition to our squad and I hope that Brendan thinks the same.  Would you like Adam Lallana to be at Liverpool next season?

I write a weekly column talking about various topics whether that is tactical analysis of matches, opinion pieces, looking through the archives of previous matches, former players and current articles on Brendan and the first team.

  • Patrick says:

Southampton would want around £30m and for that money Liverpool could sign a world class player.

  • paul says:

what world class players do you get for 30 million these days ? only have to look at man u and tottenham to know that 30 million gets you quality not world class bearing in mind mata was 35 million and cant get back in the spanish side, soldado 26 million cant even score.

lallana is ideally suited to liverpool in every sense, and i think brendan could take him to the next level i.e world class, so 30 million long term would be a snip…. even though i think it would be closer to 20 million realisticly

    • Towson Tom says:

Agree with what you say exept we got L.S. for 30 million and quite a lot of change!

  • Carl says:

He is a world class player,
I have followed him for quite a while now, he has it all and is getting better plus he plays the way BR wants players to play………In most peoples view if they are english they cannot possibly be any good…….they should watch and support boring old Barcellona.

  • jremu says:

I think he’s absolutely class , you lay him lw and he guarantees you tracking back , creativity and goals from midfield and gives you numbers in midfield.him on one wing sterling on the other with sas is a strike force I would love to see . I reckon we could get him for 18 mill

    • JP says:

18 mill for our captain and best player and possibly England’s most creative player, you are having a laugh aren’t you?

  • Jec1977 says:

It will be a great addition to the squad!!!

  • Eze says:

Keep ur captain and best player bla bla bla.i would rather have suso back cos lallana is gonna impede his development if at all he is coming back.

  • Danlfc says:

England’s most creative player after one game JP, really?
He is very talented and young, lfc 40million for him and shaw would be great work!

  • Emeka says:

Eze i agree wit u…evry one is talkin of d advantages of signing lallana…wat of d disadvantages.?? Luis alberto is leavin dats for sure but we already have cotinho suso and texiera(hendo can also play 10)…bringin in lallana wont b ideal in dis case…tho am jealous of lallana’s talent anyway

  • John says:

I said it after the So’ton game, he looks exactly like the sort of player who would fit in Rodgers’s Liverpool. I reckon we should go for it.

  • Magic man says:

Yeah jp your captain didn get you anything when we beat yous 3-0 did he. Oh sorry he missed easy chance and hit the post, my granny could’ve scored it. Hes a big fish in a we team if he goes to a big team he’ll be a flop. He was playing with englands best players on wedensday night i could play in that team and look good. In couple of years no one will even remember who he is cause your team will be back in the championship. Lol. Only joking mate yous have a very talented squad good luck the rest of the season. jp

  • Will Tanner says:

Why would Southampton sell their young England stars after investing in their renowned academy, It certainly wouldn’t be money as they are one of the richest owned in the EPL

    • Andrew McGath says:

Because if the player is a regular in the national team, he’s going to want to be playing champions league football. Something that Southampton can not offer him

  • lock&load says:

Absolutely. Great addition. Things will spark with him in the squad. Something that u can feel in your bones. YNWA

  • stevie says:

Everybody knew lallana was a class player when he was in league one. Why did we not try and sign him then? Too busy looking at the albanian fourth division probably trying to discover the next big thing instead of what was under our noses

  • Ahmad zaki says:

Adam is far much better midfielder than some f reds midfielders so I wld acquire his services if I were brendan

  • Emeka says:

Go for it den wat happens to cotinho suso hendo and texeira???(not to mention allen and alberto)…think guys of cos havin lallana wit our fire power wil give even bayern munichs defence bad dreams but den again it wil affect d progress of these talented youngsters(lets not forget lallana was once lyk dem too)..

  • Abhijan Barua says:

Not a bad shout Lallana. Plus he’s English so I’m a bit biased at getting him over another similar player. Then again, he’s got to be the best fit for Liverpool first. Running the England midfield as well would be a bonus.
