Ayre: Reds to Spend Big

Ian_Ayre_450_886061967With the season drawing to a close, it is now apparent – after the win over Norwich – that Liverpool will finish no lower than 3rd and, therefore, will go straight into the group stages of the Champions League for the 2014/15 season.

But it hasn’t stopped yet and, as Liverpool press on at the weekend against Chelsea, a higher placed finish would bring a potentially easier group, more money and, without a doubt, a greater deal of interest from top class talent.

If Liverpool are to become Champions of England again then there is no telling the kind of talent the club will be able to attract and with upwards of £60 million being reported in some parts of the press, the sky may very well be the limit in terms of who will be pulling on a red shirt next year.

Speaking today, managing director Ian Ayre said “It will cost what it costs when we decide who the manager wants to buy. That has always been on the cards. It is fairly obvious that we set out with an ambition to get into the Champions League.

“It has always been tougher in the transfer market when you are not competing at the highest level. We had the issue with Luis (Suarez) last summer because he wanted to play in the best games against the best players. That is always a factor.”

Brendan Rodgers is now expected to use his new-found position of strength, after guiding Liverpool to within 3 games of winning the Premier League title to ask for more say in who comes and goes from the club, and it’s likely, with a view to keeping a potentially title-winning young manager happy, that they will grant his wishes.

Ayre went on to say “It is an unbelievable achievement from where we were. It is what we set out for but if you were taking bets at the start of the season, you’d have said fourth place would be a great achievement. Now we are guaranteed third and we are determined to push on.”

I think intelligent spending is best. Richards, caulker, morrison, mccarthy, bertrand, ings. Rodgers can make them in to really good players. Probably get the lot for 40m. Get rid of assaidi, aspas, enrique and a couple of others. Don’t waste it on big names from abroad who will bleed the club with excessive wage demands

I like Caulker but the rest is squad players. We need proven Quality and not only look for them in Eng but All over the world .

Don’t agree ryan. Don’t ignore what’s under your nose. If we win the league it will be with 6 englishmen playing regularly. Brendan likes an english core and can make the above players better just like he’s done with flanno, hendo, sturridge and sterling
