Former Liverpool midfielder and Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp, believes that there are only two contenders for English footballs’ top two awards this season: Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodger and star striker, Luis Suarez.
In his piece for the Daily Mail, Redknapp is in no doubt as to who the favourites are for both awards, saying “It’s the time when people start talking about awards, but there is no question Liverpool should win the double.
“Luis Suarez has been magnificent and Brendan Rodgers is a class act. They are the player and manager of the year.”
With Brendan Rodgers likely to be in the top two contenders, regardless of whether Liverpool actually do go on to win the league, there is still doubt over whether the powers that be would be willing to do such a massive U-turn in awarding Suarez the Player of the Year award.
There is no room for doubt with Redknapp though, as he went on to say “They play such fantastic football with a British manager and Sunday had six Englishmen in their starting XI.
“Suarez and Rodgers should win the individual awards, but they will want to make it a magnificent treble with the title.”
