Hendo Is Key

hi-res-456856459-jordan-henderson-of-liverpool-celebrates-scoring-their_crop_exactBrendan Rodgers refuses to admit that we can win the league and no one believes him any longer. Maybe he is only trying to shield our lads from any added pressures of expectation and this is understandable, but he has to come out and say,“We now aim to win the league” at some point before the end of the season.  Maybe he’s waiting until top 4 is a mathematical certainty before announcing the new objectives. The problem for Liverpool is that we haven’t got the title winning experience. If they suffer a setback, can they lift themselves to mount another late attack on the title?

For the vast majority of this season our attack has dragged us through to victory; grabbing a point when a loss was looking the likely result. They have been the backbone of the Liverpool resurgence this season. So this late in the season when teams fight for every point until the last second, I don’t think that our attack will score the goals (almost at will) as they did leading up to this point.

As teams defend with seven men and try to counter wanting to exploit the lack of pace we have in Agger and Skrtel. This tactic was used by Sunderland and only a stunning Gerrard free kick and deflected Sturridge shot could unsettle the seven man defensive wall, as Sunderland also highlighted our poor defensive structure at set pieces.

Much has been said about our defensive frailties and rightfully so, we have been poor at times, and then have been brilliant at times. While our attack has been the only constant, we have to assume that at any point, they may not be at their brilliant best and a good defence is all we will have to get us through. Liverpool simply cannot ignore that we struggled at Fulham, and though we beat Sunderland, it was only just. And for 45 mins Cardif were more than match for the Red Machine. But Liverpool has something no other team has..

Liverpool has a secret weapon and this secret weapon, I believe, will be unleashed at West Ham. This secret may not be an actual secret but it is, nonetheless, Jordan Henderson! The man has had some very consistent performances and looking at him against Spurs I believe he has reached the level where the belief in his ability is finally where it should be. He is prepared to do the hard graft, he’s a box-to-box player and with some stellar performances this season, his England call up, a man of the match performance and a few goals he may just be the man for the big occasion.

Jordan Henderson reminds me of a Kid getting a broken toy for Christmas, he has no interest in that toy until its fixed and that toy becomes his best friend for the next 10 years. Similarly, Hendo is now fixed, and I cant wait form him to break out of his shell and play his football with freedom. He doesn’t have the skill and great first touch of Luis, or the dribbling and shooting ability of Daniel Sturridge, but hes got something far better, hes got the same thing that has kept Steven Gerrard going for 16 years now: heart. His never say die, never give in, never let go attitude perfectly sums up the Liverpool of today.

Jordan will run and run until he collapses or is dragged from the pitch and with this in mind, I think Brendan Rodgers would do well to let him loose on the advanced role in the team, arriving late in the box, arriving in the box more often and picking up loose balls on the edge of the box and taking on the ‘keeper more often. Jordan certainly can become our most important player if he just breaks free and forgets the disappointing start he had and realises that this is his home. He’s accepted at Anfield, and if he just realises that he is as good as anyone on his day – if not better – we will see the rise of Hendo as a secret weapon for LFC.

Completely agree. Sakho for Agger who often struggles against powerful players.

Sakho was immense yesterday. Almost all of his passes found an advanced player, no risk taking, solid in the air.

If we do win the league Henderson deserves massive credit and will be an instant legend.
