Poetic Justice In the Making?

UEFA Champions League Semi Final - Liverpool v ChelseaLiverpool are now within touching distance. In fact, they may have one hand on the trophy but it’s still being jerked back and forth by Manchester City tugging the other handle of this illusive trophy.

As every Liverpool fan the world over has no doubt been calculating the various permutations of how Liverpool will win the league, the one thing that scares me most is the winning streak we’re on at the moment.

You see, winning runs must end at some point and often there is some poetic justice to it. Seeing Luis Garcia play in a Liverpool shirt at the locals vs International legends got me thinking about that goal he scored against Chelsea.

For Mourinho to dent Liverpool title hopes will certainly be poetic to him.  Sure he’s an opinionated loudmouth with a less than attractive defensive minded team but he’s still a great tactician.

And if he somehow manages to thwart the brilliance of Brendan Rodgers’s free scoring, free flowing, super charged Red army, then he certainly will be solidifying his reputation as a master tactician. Add to that the drama of having two players who were heavily linked with Liverpool who ultimately signed for them (Willian, Salah), and then the man we love to fail since he moved there: Fernando Torres.  This fixture certainly has all the makings of a day of high drama, excitement, twists and turns. And its too much for me to bare.

Yes we have the best strikers in the Premier League, the best controlling midfielder in the league, the most creative midfield duo in Sterling and Coutinho, but we also have the most generous defence when compared to the other title hopefuls. The Liverpool defensive frailties has been well documented by many and well pounced on, yet they still haven’t managed to stop the attacking brilliance of Luis Suarez and co.

This game will undoubtedly be fueled by passion, and if Liverpool don’t score within 60 minutes it can get really really nervy. I am certain Mourinho will set up a team to just not concede in the opening 30-35 minutes and will offer nothing going forward  in that time. The longer this game hangs in the balance the stronger Chelsea will get. And if Liverpool’s last 2 games are anything to go by nerves will kick in around 60 minutes if we haven’t settled matters by then.

I hope that Johnson sorts himself out come Sunday as he too will add to the drama. He was poor against City, poor against Cardiff and was poor against Norwich again. I hope the occasion brings out the best of Johnson so he can support the front men from out wide as he did in the corresponding fixture in last season. Flanagan on the other hand has been brilliant in the big games – not even Jesus could get by him (Navas) against City. I’m hoping he can do a similar good job against that toothless Chelsea attack. There is so much to look forward to in this game and the nerves are shaking me to the very core!

That being said, the real poetic justice would be Ivanovic  bringing down Luis in the area and getting sent off, Gerrard scoring that penalty, Torres missing from 1 yard out, with Daniel Sturridge scoring and celebrating in front of Mourinho and to cap matters off, Luis scoring from an impossible angle, after handling the ball, in an offside position, none of this seen by the ref or linesman, and at the Kop end of course!

why the panic ? if you need 5 pens you’ll get them, the screaming skull will be allowed to foul incessantly in the area with 100% immunity and the media love in will continue all summer ( thank god for the world cup which will hopefully calm some of it down).

Next season we’ll see how you cope with the real world (unless you dip out of all the cups early again of course 🙂 )

I wish it had not been given – then it would have been a penalty with a Chelsea player sent off. – he never mentions that fact.

  • Hop we don't miss this big chance says:

Poetic justice ??? Take it you never heard the only set of fans in the PL (Chelsea) disrespecting the minutes silence for the 96 or the Chelsea fan Howard Webb not sending Ramirez or eto off or the pen that he never give on Suarez! You want more poetic justice ok the own goal gerrard scored in the 2005 carling cup final and mourhino finger on his mouth telling us to ssshhh ! And also for the rest of the PL because Chelsea are the most hated and boring team with the most annoying manager , so it will be funny when we give them a run a round 3-0 and then they get beat against AM

What about the Liverpool fans booing and whistling EVERY time a City player had the cheek to touch the ball in your big “memorial game” This after City the fans and the club acted impeccably and respectfully on and off the pitch.
Rodgers getting charged by the Premier League after his sore loser comments after your defeat at the Etihad while Pelligrini acted with class despite the inept performance of Clattenburg, diving and cheating by Suarez and the right hook of Skirtl
Thats this season NOT 10 yrs ago!

Wait, that Liverpool vs Man City was a “memorial game”? I thought it was one of Premier League matches. Hey, what about Lescott’s foul on Suarez at Etihad? Or that “offside” incident? Or when Kompany grabbed and pushed down Suarez in the penalty box at Anfiedl? Or maybe you want to blame Kompany’s fail clearance on us too? I feel like a silly person pointing out these situations one by one. Get over it, lad.

What a pile of crap, notice the moaning whinge bag Mourinho has started talking about a ‘weakened’ team, is that an excuse before the game? Just put you best available 11 out, Liverpool will, i would like to see a good hard fair match, unfortunately Chelsea will have to resort the usual dirty tricks to win.

    • Carlos says:

      Good hard fair match?
No Suarez diving and biting then?
No Skirtl punching the ball out of the area?
      Are they not dirty tricks?

      • shaheed joseph says:

Ok if skrtel can’t punch clear then jose can’t park the bus on our beautiful pitch

And no time wasting , no dragging suarez down when he inevitably runs clear , no disgustingly poor tackles by mikel and lampard , lastly , if eto fouls anyone ,ANYONE! That douchbag must see red!

  • Carlos says:

Lest we forget, Liverpools winning streak would’ve come to an end a couple of weeks ago if it wasnt for Clattenburgs incompetent refereeing in the City game and City would still be in the driving seat for the league

    • Redordead says:

please!!!, City had the rub of the green against Liverpool when sterling scored and it was given offside, we all know he was MILES on!, BR’s comments was fair, and it was Questions, not rantings! what about the goal given against us vs West ham and that infringement on our nervy keeper by the man made up entierly of broomsticks angie carrol. What about Etoo challenge on Hendo going un paunished?, what about the penalty wich we never got in that very game?, what about the 4th penalty at united which was never given?, what about the poor tackles going unpuniched on our top players!! Liverpool deserve to be where we are, our winnin run is supposed to be beter were it not for that poor decisions at chelsea and city.

Chelsea fans are just jealous of our great past and superb present and fabulous futured, and we dont have shitty moaning b!tch as a coach.

Liverpool will anhialate chelsea 5-1 (i just hope torres doestn score that 1 goal)
