Forward - Rickie LambertJust over an hour ago, Sky Bet suspended all betting on Southampton’s Rickie Lambert moving to Liverpool, after a ‘large volume’ of bets were placed on the Scouse striker making his dream move to the club.

Having just made the final 23-man squad for Roy Hodgson’s England, who will soon head off to Brazil, Lambert probably would never have dared dream that both of these would happen in the one summer, but it’s unlikely that the striker’s potential arrival will fill many Liverpool fans with joy.

The 32 year old is one of the better English strikers in the Premier League, but with only Daniel Sturridge really standing out last season, that isn’t really a great compliment.

Nevertheless, Lambert still had a productive years for Southampton, scoring 14 goals, after 15 in his debut season in the Premier League and his form over his time at Southampton would certainly make him stand out as a guaranteed 10-15 goals a season, perhaps even more in a side such as Liverpool’s, hosting an array of attacking talent and may be available for as little as £4-5 million. There is absolutely no doubting he would give Liverpool a different approach, when needed, as well as undoubtedly giving his all, with the type of player he is.

Whether the surge in betting in based on some insider knowledge is yet to be seen, but with a reputable betting firm such as Sky making such an announcement, Liverpool may well be welcoming another Scouser to Anfield in the near future and it could well be a very shrewd move by the club.

He’ll be a good back up for the SAS and won’t mind being on the bench. He’ll just be made up to be back home. It’s a sensible deal at £4m, but too much if it’s the £8-10m Sky are quoting. Age is an issue at 32, but McAllister came at 35 – but Gary Mac was on a free.

Am much more eager for us to tie up deals for Moreno and Can, and would only be really excited if we get someone top drawer like Alexis Sanchez.

Good though that we seem to be getting busy.

Makes some sense as a 4th choice striker.
If we pay 9 million for him, fire whoever came up with the idea on the spot!!! Next up 50 million for lalana and everyone can laugh at the club…. Just like the KD masterplan !
