So it’s done. We know who the new Premier League champions are and it isn’t Liverpool FC, and while we can talk all day and night about the reasons Manchester City won the league, in the end it is irrelevant – they are crowned Champions this evening because they were the better team.
A squad with few egos and a manager that has brought back a shred of dignity to the title race, City would’ve been most people’s choice at the start of the season. Obviously, that was when nobody realised what Brendan Rodgers had up his sleeve.
In Rodgers Liverpool now have a manager that has showed that, like Pellegrini, he brings a gravity and dignity to the Premier League that the likes of Ferguson, Wenger and Mourinho had been chipping away at over the years. Rodgers has now won over players, staff and fans alike and will go into the summer with full backing from the club to build on his incredible second season.
While the disappointment of losing out on the Premier League title will no doubt stay lodged in the memory for longer than we’d like, it’s the first time since Istanbul that Liverpool have been able to dream of what may come next.
Rafa Benitez promised to take Liverpool across the threshold after that remarkable turnaround but was hamstrung by owners with only profits in mind. Kenny Dalglish was a necessary stop-gap that steadied the ship but was sadly out of touch with the modern game. While the less said about the man that preceded him, the better.
But now, in Rodgers, Liverpool have a manager to be proud of; a man that seems to understand the club and what it means to manage Liverpool FC and has given us a team to be proud of, once again. Since Christmas, Brendan has channelled the spirit and passion of the fans and imbued his players with a fight and will we’ve not seen in too long.
I mean, let’s be honest, we have some talented players at Anfield but this is a group of players that had no right to challenge for the title until the final day and you know you’re doing something right when fans of Manchester United, Everton, Chelsea and Spurs can only find happiness in mocking you for not having tied up the title!
So, on to next season, when things will only get better and we can say without fear of rebuke that we genuinely believe it will be our year. Some quality additions – on both the coaching and playing staff – and some long-overdue exits and Liverpool will suddenly go from plucky underdogs to genuine contenders, on all four front.
Good one. My sentiments exactly.
If you think BR is any good, you’re kidding yourselves. He had the title within his grasp, it was is slip up(not Gerard’s) that costs us. He is tactically naive, he has no defensive nous. He coudn’t withstand the pressure and next year will be even harder. The team will be in CL, therefore the squad will be more stretched and BR will be like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Our record in CL is second to none(of the English clubs), we must demand success and excellence from everyone at the club.

If we beat Hull, Palace & Southampton that would have been a further 8 points. We blew it ourselves although to get into that position was impressive for BR in his 2nd year. The people complaining about money are just bitter i’m afraid.
If we buy lalana for 20 million, it will be another fine mess! No lessons learned . None whatsoever
i feel disappointed at finishing 2nd. yes i think we did blow it through stupidity against chelsea and crystal palace. however, losing against financial cheats like citeh is no disgrace. i doubt uefa will kick them out of the champions league but wouldn’t it be great if they did? also, how can a team that’s been found guilty of financial cheating be allowed to keep the premier league? if i was john henry i would get his lawyers on the case. the only way to stop teams like citeh is in court
