Express Claim Liverpool Looking at Johnson

adam johnsonIn another bizarre twist to this summer’s transfer window, the Express have today claimed that Liverpool are now turning their attention to Adam Johnson, who could be available for around £10 million.

Following a relatively successful last few months of the season for Sunderland, Johnson has never lacked confidence in his own ability and would no doubt welcome a move to Liverpool. However, it’s unlikely that too many Liverpool fans would welcome Johnson, unless he was simply being considered as a fairly inexpensive squad player with the likes of Suso, Alberto and Aspas all seemingly due to leave the club in one way or another.

The 26 year old has only spent a single season with Sunderland, after having had a mixed career at Manchester City but, as Sunderland’s star player, it was always likely that he would be moving on eventually. There is no doubting Johnson’s raw ability and he has been linked with the Reds before, but it is his attitude that has always appeared to be the issue and that is probably not something that Rodger’s should be introducing to a very harmonious squad at such a crucial juncture.

The Express claim that if any offer were to be made, it could be in the form of a swap deal for Fabio Borini, who became a very popular figure following an extremely positive spell with the Black Cats last season. Similarly, Johnson had a very productive season with 10 goals and 6 assists and was probably Sunderland’s best player, after Vito Mannone but regardless, he was moved out of City for a reason and unless he is simply being looked at as a squad option, it is unlikely that his acquisition would be welcomed as an alternative to more illustrious options that Liverpool have been linked with, such as Sanchez, Lallana and Shaqiri.

Would you welcome the signing of Adam Johnson, or should Liverpool be looking at a higher calibre of player?
