With Chile doing so well at the World Cup so far, it was perhaps inevitable that Liverpool would be linked with one or two of their players. In Alexis Sanchez, we already have the existing interest – so we’re lead to believe – and in recent days the club has also been linked with Arturo Vidal.
Now, it seems, it’s the turn of Mauricio Isla.
But while the Sanchez interest seems to be very real, and the reports of interest in Vidal seem a little off the mark, there may actually be something to the talk of Liverpool making a move for Isla.
Currently at Juventus, the right-back is enjoying a great World Cup so far, after a strong season with the giants of Italian football. However, having been the second choice right-back at the club for the past 2 years behind Stephan Lichtsteiner, after a series of injuries it may be time for the player to look for a move.
At the age of 26, Isla will be coming into his prime over the next 2 years and will be looking to move to a club where he is the primary right-back and his performances for Chile will have alerted a number of clubs to his potential availability.
With Glen Johnson’s services likely to be retained until his contract expires, he is more than likely going to find himself playing second fiddle to somebody once the new season starts and with Juve having now purchased the remaining ‘ownership’ rights, things could be a lot easier for the Reds if they’re to make a move, than they would’ve been prior.
