Welcome Home, Rickie Lambert

Rickie Lambert (England)Well, that all went down pretty quickly, didn’t it? If this is a sign of things to come, then the Rickie Lambert signing has shown that Liverpool have learned from the past three transfer windows and now know how to open and close a transfer over a weekend. And not even a Bank Holiday weekend! Rumours surface on Thursday night, he has his medical on Saturday and is signed by Monday – more of this please, Ian Ayre.

All joking aside though, Liverpool’s conduct in getting Lambert signed up was impressive though, with a player like Rickie it’s likely that not even an offer from Barcelona would’ve deterred him from signing for his boyhood idols.

For a mere £4 million Liverpool have signed an experienced, proven and highly-motivated Premier League striker that has a couple of productive season’s left in him and, not wanting to make too fine a point of it (as this has been repeated all weekend), he really will give his all for this club and that sort of commitment is worth the fee alone.

Speaking to LFC.tv following signing, Lambert said “I can’t believe it. I’ve loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago – and I haven’t stopped loving it since. To be back here now having just signed at the age of 32 is hard to describe.”

With 117 goals in 235 games for Southampton, Lambert has been a fairly prolific scorer at all levels and thoroughly deserves his chance at Anfield, regardless of what any naysayers may believe. The fact that he is one of 4 strikers with England at the World Cup only adds to this belief that he still has plenty to offer at a top club like Liverpool.

So, it should give us all a great deal of pleasure to welcome Rickie Lambert to Liverpool for a second time: welcome home, Rickie.
