Jules_Rimet_Was_Under_My_Bed_2Football fans galore packed into the National Football Museum in Manchester last Thursday (29th May 2014), in conjunction with Campo Retro.

The event’s main draw was the Jules Rimet trophy, for which it was named after, and which was on display for the very first time. The event aimed to tell the story of how it came to be stolen and then discovered one week later by Pickles the dog, only to disappear again in Rio.

‘Jules Rimet Was Under My Bed’ featured talks from Ryan Steele, the Collections Officer at the National Football Museum, Martin Atherton, author of ‘The Theft of the Jules Rimet Trophy’, and David Blanch, Head of Design at Campo Retro.

The event was presented by Hugh Ferris from 5 Live and, alongside the trophy, was the official Bobby Moore shirt and many other famous football kits.

Campo Retro is known for its interest in history and detail in the various stories behind the football kits of the past. They decided to focus on the Jules Rimet when creating their new Campo: Brasil ‘14 Collection.

With fascinating talks and intriguing insight into the history of the trophy and the National Football Museum, the event was the ideal lead-up to the World Cup.

Ray Evans, MD at Campo Retro, said: “The ‘Jules Rimet Was Under My Bed’ event came about through our research at Campo Retro. We were incredibly intrigued about the history of the Jules Rimet and so decided to delve a little deeper, only to discover this fascinating story that we knew other football fans would love to learn more about.

“The event was a roaring success, with countless football fans attending. We’re thrilled with the level of interest people showed, and that we got the chance to tell this amazing story thanks to the National Football Museum.”
