If Barca Go For Reus, Should Liverpool Push For Pedro?

PedroReports in the last few days in Spain have claimed that Barcelona are targeting Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, with Spanish paper ‘Sport’ claiming the player himself has agreed terms with the Catalan club ahead of a potential move in the region of £28m. If this is true, or if at least the prospect of Barcelona targeting Reus as a marquee signing is true, then this could open the door for Liverpool to make a move for Pedro, who has been heavily linked with moves away from the Nou Camp in the last month and indeed linked with ourselves.

Pedro for many seasons has been seen as a key member of the well-oiled tika-taka Barcelona machine, as the direct forward who can hurt teams with his pace and expert positioning. When Barcelona were at the height of the powers under Pep Guardiola he was often one the first names on the team sheet alongside fellow Spaniard David Villa and the little magician Messi in a forward line feared across Europe.

However since Guardiola’s departure, Pedro has seen his playing time reduced as a result of the signing of Brazil’s Neymar and experimental tactics deployed under Martino and Tito Vilanova including playing either Fabregas or Iniesta in one of the advanced roles.

Recently in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Pedro was hardly quick to quell rumours of him leaving his hometown club and instead was quoted as saying ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen yet’ regarding his future, thus suggesting he may be tempted in a move away from Barcelona as a result of his reduced playing time. If this is the case then the latest rumours of Marco Reus being one of the main transfer targets for the recently installed Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique will hardly raise Pedro’s spirits and this may be a good time for Liverpool to pounce on getting one of Europe’s top forwards.

With Liverpool seemingly in the market for an attack minded player who can play in various positions, Pedro would suit Liverpool perfectly. He is extremely versatile as he has been deployed all across the front line for Barcelona since breaking in to the first team. Furthermore his international and Champions League experience could be invaluable with the added demands of Champions League football. Overall I personally think he could be an absolute hit at Liverpool with his direct style suiting Brendan’s new, more German esque, style of play and would once again be part of one of Europe’s best forward line, this time along-side the SAS.

If you look at the state we are in with the “Fairplay” conditions it is incumbent on us to cut our costs to a more reasonable level before the 2015/16 season. Intrinsic to that would be a wholesale selling of a few “unwanted” players before anything else. We simply cannot go spending multi-millions at inflated prices and then expect to balance the books for a continued stay in the CL. The 2012/13 season did us some financial harm and needs remedying ASAP. We have a year or two yet where we have to be very selective in who we chase and at what reasonable cost to the books.

Prefer Sanchez than Pedro. Pedro without doubt a fantastic player but at the same time seems to go down too often by a slightest touch. This may be dealt lightly at la liga but at EPL, he may get himself into trouble. So, Sanchez will be perfect for LFC. He will be perfect for the existing ‘S’ predators we have now. Add another Shaqiry to them and even R.Madrid will park a bus in front of their keeper.
