Spain: The Spanish, containing Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, have been one of the strongest internationals side for the past 6 years and this World Cup is no different.
But while they will be one of the top 3 favourites for the competition, many of their top players are on the wrong side of 30. Players such as Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa are all still top quality but they aren’t as quick or agile as they once were either.
Luckily for Spain, that conveyor belt of quality shows no signs of letting up and this could very well be the World Cup of the changing of the guard, with the likes of Koke, Fabregas, Silva and Costa looking to step into the breach.
It’s tough to make a prediction about Spain because their best players are getting on a bit and it’s still debatable whether their younger stars have what it takes to carry the torch.
Prediction: Finalists, but depends on certain newer players stepping up
