2. Daniel Sturridge – My heart wanted to rank Sturridge number 1 on this list, as if England are to go far in this World Cup, then it’ll be off the back of goals from England’s best striker but my head tells me it just can’t happen. Can it?
No, surely not. After such a stellar season for Liverpool, Sturridge was only narrowly outdone by Luis Suarez as both players seemed on a plane of their own as they each aimed for the top-scorer in the Premier League, whilst scoring goals week after week that most players could only dream of.
Sturridge’s rise from Chelsea reject to England’s top striker has been rapid, make no mistake, but his talent has never been in question, just overlooked. In the absence of any kind of performance of merit from England’s – supposedly – only world class player, Wayne Rooney, the onus falls to Sturridge for goals and I believe firmly that Sturridge will get goals and make a real name for himself at this tournament.
How many he scores, however, will depend on how many of his Liverpool team-mates he gets to play with and how often they get to play together during the tournament.
They will perform well,no matter what YNWA
