Borini – instrumental in Sunderland retaining their Premier League status

In complete contrast to recent years, Liverpool actually look to be working wonders in the ‘outgoings’ category this transfer window, as Fabio Borini looks to be set to join Sunderland on a permanent basis for around £14 million.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Stoke had finally relented and were prepared to meet Liverpool’s valuation for midfielder Oussama Assaidi, of £7 million which, considering the club only paid a fee reported to be less than £3 million for the player represents a ‘double your money’ deal for the club, and then some.

And now, it seems that the £11 million paid for Borini has been topped off with an extra £3 million, meaning that between the two the club are expected to make a profit of around £7 million. Provided both deals go ahead, of course.

In Borini’s case, it brings to an end a career that didn’t really get started at the club and many will be sorry to see him go, whilst recognizing that it’s probably for the best for all parties.

Considering the great season Borini had for Sunderland last year, and the fact that he played a very crucial role (and struck up a great partnership with Sunderland’s Connor Wickham) in keeping Gus Poyet’s side in the Premier League, the Italian striker knows he’ll be going to a club where he’ll play regularly and be warmly appreciated by the home fans.

While Liverpool were reportedly keen to hang on to the young Italian striker, his desire for regular first-team football and his successful loan spell last season appear to have been too big a pull for him, whilst the fee Sunderland have offered was clearly too good for the club to refuse, meaning it will clearly be a good move for all.

Good luck at Sunderland, Fabio.

Currently watching Preston V Liverpool and Borini is playing, would you play some one due to leave imminently?

Maybe the rumours are wrong on this occasion.

He was due to play today anyway, then fee was agreed but Borini has rejected Sunderland’s terms so, in Rodger’s words ‘he’s still a Liverpool player’. I’m sure he’ll still end up there, though.
