Is Lovren days away from becoming Liverpool’s latest signing?

News emerging from Croatia this evening claims that Dejan Lovren will complete a move to Liverpool from Southampton in the next 48 hours, after an offer of anywhere between £15-20 million was accepted by the club.

Lovren appears to have been Brendan Rodgers’ only centre back target this summer, as the Liverpool manager looks to shore up a defence that leaked an alarming amount of soft goals last season and Lovren’s vocal and commanding presence would add an element that Liverpool were missing last season.

Despite a great season for Martin Skrtel and a promising start for Sakho, Liverpool always seemed to be missing a natural, vocal leader at the back and Rodgers had identified Lovren as the man to fill that key role very early in the post-season.

With a combined transfer outlay so far of about £60 million, the acquisition of Lovren would take the Reds closer to that elusive £100 million mark, as the club looks to back Brendan Rodgers to build a squad in his vision and, in the talented Croat, Liverpool could be about to sign a player that gives the club something it hasn’t had since the days of Carragher and Hyypia.

How do you feel about the prospect of signing Southampton’s Dejan Lovren? Will this mean either Agger or Toure must now move on? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

at last liverpool got defender from southamton which will give good back up which we did not have last year & concede too many goals

  • lfcfanmatt says:

Firstly lovren wouldn’t be back up too anyone …. It wud downgrade skrtel to the bench. But I must say I’m really happy about this signing… Solid defender perfect age to develope at liverpool… Tbh after Remy and lovren we only really need a left back and the season is ready to begin

I think this is a good signing , I think he was very good for Southampton last year and hopefully will be for us.. I also think we NEED to sign Moreno and we should try signing Luis Muriel from udinese

If we can sell Kolo Toure before the season commences, that will make me more happier than the day we bought Lallana from saints…Y.N.W.A

Dejan Lovren & Fonte are the 2 defenders have always wanting to see @Liverpool, so seeing Lovren complets a move to Anfield is like a dream come true for me

  • Roger says:

If Lovren indeed signs for LFC, it will be a massive improvement at the back. But as this news is taking place, another one tries to pull us back. D. Agger announces he is “considering” his future. Don’t understand with this kind if attitude. Agger is a great player ,in fact one my favourites but why create a scene the moment competition arrives? If you’re good enough, than you should proof it. LFC need players who thrives on challenges not the kind which
    sulk and throw tantrums.

  • Lennon says:

I agree Roger, as much as i love agger i must say , he can fuck off, he got chances last season to prove he is still on top of his game but could not raise to the occasion, we conceded 50+ goals last season obviously something is off, he wants first team football at a mid table team, fair enough let him go
