So, that moment all Liverpool fans dreaded last summer, and hoped wouldn’t happen this summer has finally arrived: Luis Suarez has officially left LFC.
The move was announced by the club this morning, when they confirmed that the player had left to join Barcelona in a move believed to be around £75-77 million. Of course, the actual fee will likely never be confirmed, nor will the payment structure but provided that fans are assured a fee matching his release clause was met, there’ll be little to grumble about.
In Suarez’s final statement on the club website, he said “It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.
“But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.
“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
The only thing that Reds fans can be thankful for, is that the player’s departure was an amicable one and many will cherish the memories the player leaves behind.
Whilst Brendan Rodgers was a little more generous in his statement on Luis’s departure, the club was a little more formal, thanking the player for his contributions and wishing him well: “We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.
Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.”
With Suarez now a Barca player, all eyes will be on what the club intends to do next and the first order of business will hopefully be finding a suitable replacement for Suarez.
Thanks for the memories, Luis.
reds should get carlos vela
my best sight as suarez replecement was ,they shall either go for james rodriguez or they shall look for the service of angel dimaria.
Just dont go wasting money…..remy is available.a new goalkeeper and cb.ynwa
The signings they are being linked to is a joke. Markovic, bony, origi, they need a super star now.
Chelsea with school bus full of so called superstars finished behind us last season. But now that Suarez has departed, we need a capable striker to partner Sturridge and a couple of defenders. There is no need to waste money on “marquee” signings that give no sh..e about contracts. Get players who can get the job done. Most importantly, players who wants to play for Liverpool.
