Liverpool Must Stand Firm Over Suarez Valuation

FSG will refuse to budge on Suarez valuation

So it’s been barely a week to the day that Luis Suarez went and undid all the hard work that Brendan Rodgers, Steve Peters and the club did for him last season and opted to bite a player in order to vent his frustrations.

And, once again, Reds rallied around in support, only to receive the slap in the face a week later that was news that Barcelona were due to meet Ian Ayre and other club officials in London to discuss a transfer for Luis Suarez.

At present, it’s hard to gauge the mood. Many will feel disappointed that Suarez has shown little loyalty, others will feel it’s perhaps for the best and that Barca can deal with his future misdemeanors, while a small handful are no doubt already at the ‘good riddance’ stage of the grieving process.

What’s definitely clear though is that, should Barca make a satisfactory offer for the player then we’ve seen Suarez’s last appearance in a Red shirt. But that is likely to be the biggest sticking point in this potential transfer: whether a satisfactory offer is received.

Because, at present, it seems that Barcelona are reluctant to budge their valuation above £60 million – £20 million less than FSG are prepared to accept. Of course, this is why these meetings are now taking place, so that both clubs can come to a satisfactory agreement for both sides but a club like Barca is used to getting its’ way, much like Real Madrid, and there is a belief that when either of the Spanish giants come calling, the player goes and the club accept what they’re given and be happy with it.

However, the unsavory way in which Barcelona have been courting Suarez recently almost makes you want the Liverpool officials to tell Barcelona nothing they can offer would be enough and to enjoy their flight back to El Prat. But with the kind of money we’re talking about that is unlikely to happen, particularly as this is the second summer in succession that Suarez has indicated he wants to leave.

Ayre to negotiate with Barcelona with Suarez

There was a time – which feels like a life time ago – when most of us would’ve believed that Barcelona were a beacon of righteousness; a club, owned and controlled by the fans, that did things properly, played football the way it was meant to be played and flew in the face of the state-supported anti-football that was Real Madrid. So it’s sad in recent years (see the ‘courting of Fabregas, amongst others) to see them become what they seemed to once detest so much and having new signing Ivan Rakitic publicly ‘tapping’ Suarez up a few days ago.

Which is why it’s important for Liverpool to remain firm, in the face of the pressure that will surely come from Barcelona, in the form of quotes and stories from various Barca ‘representatives’ over the coming week or so. It should be made abundantly clear that the jumping off point is £80 million and anything below won’t even be considered, and whilst player-plus-cash offers are acceptable, only players of Liverpool’s choosing. Because we don’t want a triumphant Ian Ayre returning with Christian Tello and an IOU.

What FSG and Brendan Rodgers showed last summer though, was a backbone and insurmountable determination not to be pushed around and it gained them a lot of respect and made it clear to Suarez that he wouldn’t get his way, unless it was on their terms. It’s for that reason that I, and all Liverpool fans, should have a great deal of faith that the club will negotiate the best offer for Liverpool.

If my car was on the Market for £80K and then I had a prang in it I wouldn’t expect to still sell it at £80K. I think Liverpool are deluding themselves. They should snap Barcelona’s arms off for a bid of £50-60M. Good return on an extremely volatile player. It would give them good cash early in the transfer window to go and find a replacement (one less likely to mucnh on a fellow pro).

why should we accept what barca offer did man poo accept real madrids initial offer did tottenham no they didnt and i dont see why we should either. he maybe a volatile player but he’s still one of the worlds best and too me it seems other fans are scared that if we do get serious money we’ll be going after their potential targets.

I think you are the one that is deluded, 50-60 mill for suarez a player that scored more goals than anyone in the Epl last year! We dont need to sell him that is the point, so why give away a world class player away for such a bargain over a 10 game ban that has a chance to be reduced still.

  • Friar says:

A world brilliant player regardless of any problem. £90M more the mark.

Eventually you will see what happens and realize why you are not a football manager

Honestly name a player that u could replace Suarez with and is available. I read elsewhere that Wenger had people talk to Sanchez in may in Spain.if we want have a realistic chance of winning trophies, name a replacement for Suarez.

  • Jahrule ongeri says:

No no we don’t want you to sell luis suarez, he suarez is one of the best striker in the planet. I dont see any sweet replacement of him! Add him some quality players.

  • coutinho says:

what do you think they are smoking over there at camp nou?? 80M+ for Suarez, pay or move your asses!!

  • Roger says:

Think they are smoking the same s..t Arsenal smoked. The least is 85m£. If they’re only capable of 65m£ than ask for Sanchez and Pedro to be included. But by the reports in media, Gooners seems to be very confident Sanchez wants to move to the Emirates as if Wenger already talked to Sanchez himself. It seems they haven’t stop smoking that s..t yet!

  • Roger says:

FIFA,,pro Barcelona. Ban Suarez for 4months and when he move to Barca, ban will be reduced. First say Suarez showed no remorse, now praise him for apologizing. Great move Blatter!

  • Erin says:

He was worth more than 40 million plus one pound . Staying here and finishing top 4, justified the decision to keep him. Furthermore, we can still sell for a significantly higher fee.
Owners must now, set price and deadline. If the deadline passes, forget negociatons.
Rogers, try looking outside southampton for once. Any more players from that club, we will end up laughing stock.

    • Lord Bootle says:

Sell Suarez the best player on the planet? You must be mad, keep him and watch the other clubs tremble. We are on the verge of golden era again there is no one to replace him.

  • uchenna says:

bacelona must be joking if they think they can get suarez on the cheap.85million pounds or nothing.o

  • Marshall says:

Get £85millioon…..if sanchez doesnt want to be a kop and be immortalised as a leader than a follower dnt stress we have goals in sturridge, lfc shld hold onto the cash for january…..otherwise if he begins his tricks sue every penny out of him….he wasnt remorsful and habtual cheat so brendon rogders has the keys to dictate terms otherwise he will be broke by the time he gets to barca.we are liverpool.
