LFC’s First Premier League Match for 2014-15 Season

Liverpool will be hoping to start the season with a bang against Southampton

It’s going to be Liverpool facing Southampton at Anfield on the first match day of what is going to be an enthralling season. Well, it seems like both teams have already some history to share as Liverpool have raided them this summer including the transfer of their skipper, Adam Lallana. An angry Southampton manager would be waiting to take sweet revenge for Liverpool being partially responsible for handicapping his team.

But Liverpool will not be the least bit bothered about what is going on at the other camp. They’ll go about their business of playing some ruthless football like they did against Dortmund on Sunday.

Since Suarez’s departure, Liverpool have predominantly played with a single striker with the 4-3-3 formation. The top 3 includes mainly Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho who have been blistering in the pre-season. With Markovic adding to the flair up top, Liverpool are a prominent threat in the attacking front. The middle three who have impressed are Henderson, Gerrard and Can.

Allen and Lucas are equally reliable options but it’s down to the manager to pick the right mix. Let’s not forget the role of Lallana when he gets back into the scenario. He’ll be pushed up front as a good attacking prospect that will make Henderson lay back supporting the skipper. I believe the defense has been reinforced after a dismal performance last year adding Lovren, Manquillo and Moreno to the back line.

Manquillo was a revelation at his full back role and Lovren was impressive at debut scoring a goal and making important tackles. He’ll form a solid partnership with Skrtel. The vast defensive options for Liverpool look promising with the likes of Johnson, Enrique, Flanagan, Agger, Sakho, Toure, Kelly, Coates etc.

Rodgers must be disappointed with the attacking options at his disposal. Any injury to Sturridge will seriously affect the balance of the team and strategies. Rodgers should make a lucrative signing of an attacker soon, may it be prodigal, but a smart one even if it means we have to wait till the January transfer window.

If Rodgers is serious about producing another title challenging run, it must start with game one. A good start is as important as any that will help Liverpool make a lasting impact in this season!
