Flanagan Return Delayed Until Near End of Year

Flanagan is unlikely to return to the Liverpool squad until November

The eventual emergence of youngster Jon Flanagan as a first team regular last season was one of the contributing factors in Liverpool’s superb season, as he proved to be something of a revelation in the absence of Cissokho and Enrique.

The full-back saw his form earn him a spot as a back-up player for the England World Cup squad and promises of a new, much improved contract; things just seemed to be going from good to better for the local lad.

So it will be sad news for Reds today to hear Brendan Rodgers report that Flanagan will be out for a few months yet, following an operation. “Young Jon Flanagan, unfortunately, has just had an operation that will probably have him out for a few months – which is disappointing,” the Reds manager told Liverpoolfc.com.

With Liverpool having signed Manquillo and Moreno from La Liga over the summer, it’s unlikely that Flanagan’s untimely absence will be such a huge blow as it might otherwise have been but the young Scouser will be sorely missed, as a player fully sold on Rodger’s philosophies that benefited greatly from the attacking freedom he was given last season.

With Moreno and Manquillo impressing hugely for the Reds so far, would Flanagan win his place back as soon as he is fit again?
