Liverpool Hit With Henderson Injury

Liverpool may well be without their vice captain against Middlesbrough

Losing 3-1 away to a Sam Allardyce side is bad enough but, to add insult to injury, Liverpool now look as if they will be without Jordan Henderson, at least for the visit of Middlesbrough to Anfield in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Speaking at his press conference today, the Liverpool manager said “Jordan Henderson picked up a knock so we need to assess where he’s at. And Philippe Coutinho is highly unlikely for tomorrow as well.”

The injury to Coutinho may turn out to be a blessing for the Brazilian maestro in the long-term, as he had been struggling badly for form and a short break could prove to ‘reset the clock’, so-to-speak but the injury to Henderson couldn’t have come at a worse time for Liverpool, with Rodgers’ side looking badly out of sorts.

He continued “We haven’t got any guys returning.

“Glen Johnson is still out. Joe Allen and Emre Can aren’t fit. Daniel Sturridge won’t be fit. Young Jon Flanagan has obviously had his operation.

“So we’ve got a few injuries to cope with but it’ll always give a chance to one or two of our younger players, who are doing very well at the Academy, to get a chance to be in the squad. That’s my first look.”

The side to take on the Northeast club tomorrow is likely to contain one or two players that Rodgers’ would rather rest but having games in quick succession could be the best thing for the Liverpool side at present, giving a number of players the chance to improve and back-up and younger players the chance to stake a claim.
