Rodgers Update on Recent Liverpool Injuries

Liverpool are going to be missing a number of key members of the squad come Saturdays’ game

With the international break finally at a grateful end, the Premier League can return in earnest this weekend, as Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday looking to build on the superb 3-nil victory over Spurs two weeks ago.

Speaking to the press today, Brendan Rodgers offered an update on the fitness of a number of Liverpool’s injury worries in the build-up to the match. He said “We’ve got Emre Can back from Germany, who could be out for up to six weeks because of his ankle.

“We’ve got Joe Allen back from playing on awful pitch and he has an issue with his knee. We just need to assess that for the weekend.”

Both Reds midfielders picked up their respective injuries on international duty, adding to the concerns over Daniel Sturridge and Henderson. Meanwhile, speaking on the more long-term injuries, Rodgers commented “Martin Skrtel won’t be available for the weekend but will hopefully join up with the team when we train on Sunday,”

“Glen Johnson still has a wee way to go. Young Jon Flanagan is edging towards [fitness] but is not in the squad yet.”

Thankfully, with a number of injuries in both defence and midfield, Liverpool are able to welcome Adam Lallana back into the fold, whilst all of the Reds’ back-line that started the Spurs match look to be fit and ready.
