Rodgers has much hard work ahead to halt the poor form of his side

Liverpool may not have had a best couple of weeks but the club has found its new vice-captain in Jordan Henderson following the departure of Daniel Agger. A much appreciated effort by the board to appoint a new deputy to Stevie before Champions League starter against Ludogorets. Henderson has worked extremely hard for Liverpool and this reward is every bit deserving. He is a natural leader and has the experience of leading the England U-21 internationals. He is an inspirational figure in the team. He shows intent and passion and expends every bit of his energy to make his impact felt in every single game.

Henderson is a team player or rather, a coach’s player. He puts in so much effort and gives everything for the team and does exactly what the coach orders him to do. He’ll be basking in his promotion as the club’s new vice-captain. He revels in working his socks off and giving his absolute best for the club and that’s why he deserves and most suited for this role.

The team is enduring quite a few injuries and the injured players need a speedy recovery to restore the depth since the busy schedule is proving hectic and players need to be rotated to ensure fatigue doesn’t creep in and at the same time, ensure we get the maximum out of every game. Liverpool have had a slow start with just six points in five games which is seven points behind leaders Chelsea, possibly the most hated club to fans of the red half of Merseyside at the moment. Losing to Aston Villa at home and West Ham away from home, back to back, with scoring just a single goal was a bit saddening. This is not the form with which Liverpool can face Everton in the upcoming Merseyside derby. Everton will throw everything at the Reds in Anfield coming weekend and it’ll certainly be difficult to stop them.

Liverpool are looking a bit rusty at the moment and have not got going after the injury to Sturridge. It’s been a while since they put up a string of poor performances in the Premier League. Liverpool have now joined the European elites after five years and the club must maintain the consistent effort to stay amongst the best of Europe.

I think Jordan Henderson is an excellent player and I certainly don’t want to take anything from either his performances or work ethic on the pitch. However, I think as a vice or indeed future captain he’s a bit ‘soft’. I never see him being vocal or encouraging others. Anyone else agree?

Even before he was appointed vice captain, BR would issue instructions through Hendo, even with SG on the pitch. That should tell you the story.. He is very commanding Jack

  • LakshmiNarayanan says:

He actually is vocal and encouraging. Rodgers has mentioned it several times before. He also made Henderson stay with the team when he was banned for three games last season due to suspension towards the end of the season.
