Ancelotti will come up against Brendan Rodgers for the first time

It’s just over 9 years since his AC Milan side were on the receiving end of the greatest comeback in footballing history, but that doesn’t stop the current Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, expressing his excitement for the big game at Anfield tonight.

Liverpool were 3-nil at half time but, as we all fondly remember, came back to win the match on penalties to claim LFC’s 5th European Cup and create legends out of players such as Vladimir Smicer, Xabi Alonso and Jerzy Dudek.

Speaking on the eve of the game, the Italian said “We’re really excited to play against Liverpool at Anfield with the fantastic atmosphere. It will be really exciting to watch this game because both teams like to play and attack, so it will be a really exciting game.”

And excitement – of the right kind – is exactly what Liverpool fans are hoping for, after a torrid start to the season at both ends of the pitch. But with a rather lucky win over QPR at the weekend, the Reds are up to joint 4th and having yet to move out of 1st gear, there is real hope that, with a capacity crowd at Anfield tonight, an electric atmosphere and a team talk worthy of such an illustrious European night can see the players push away the shackles and show us the team we loved to watch so much last season.

Can the Reds pull off an even more remarkable result than the 4-nil at Anfield a few years back?
