The Hammers defender has been linked with Liverpool lately

Another day, another transfer rumour and this time we’re off to West Ham, with Liverpool being linked with a move for defender Winston Reid. The New Zealand international is currently struggling to agree a contract extension with the London club and the Express claims that Liverpool, along with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, are believed to be ‘monitoring’ the centre back’s current situation.

Given the Reds’ inability to keep other teams out this season, it would make sense that the club would be looking around for potential targets, either for January or the summer, if the defensive situation doesn’t improve but you’d be hard-pressed to find many that believe Reid could be the answer.

Much like previous Liverpool target, Ashley Williams, Winston Reid is a typically solid, no nonsense Premier League centre back but West Ham are highly unlikely to accept a derisory offer for the player (despite his contract situation), meaning that any club would be forced to pay a hefty fee if they wish to sign him in January.

There is no doubt Reid would add a bit of steel and much more Premier League experience to the Liverpool defense but is he the ‘answer’ to any defensive issues Liverpool have at present? Let us know your views on the player in the comments below.
