Brendan believes his side have got what it takes to take the points against Real tonight

Speaking ahead of the Reds’ most illustrious game of the season tonight, Brendan Rodgers spoke of his players ability to lift themselves for the ‘big games’ and how the form of the past 3 months will go out of the window when Liverpool enter the stage of Anfield on a massive Champions League night.

In his press conference on Tuesday, Rodgers said “We understand it is a very important game for us and it’s obviously a great challenge for us. The good thing about this group is we really lift ourselves for the big games.

“We haven’t got to the levels of last season yet, of course, for many reasons – but this is a special game and a special competition for us. I’m very confident the great competitors our team has in it will rise to the standard of playing against an outstanding Real Madrid team.”

The Liverpool side, at present, certainly hasn’t hit the heights expected of them yet this season and the game against the current European Champions is a perfect opportunity for Brendan’s team to announce their arrival, at long last, and make a real statement of intent for the rest of the season.

With just three points from their first two games, the 3rd match in the group is very much a ‘must win’ for Liverpool, with an away trip to Madrid coming up over the next couple of weeks and the onus will really be on to put in a season-defining performance.

The Liverpool manager went on “Coming into the competition, our home games were very, very important for us.

“We didn’t play so well away from home in the game against Basel, but should have got something from that game. You look at the home games in this competition as an opportunity to get the points.

“We aren’t playing as well as we have done, but what people maybe haven’t seen and focused on, whilst we’ve been building a style of football here and principals in the game, underpinning all of that has been character and spirit.

“At the moment, it’s been that character and spirit that has allowed us to win games. If we can do that at home, it’s another step towards us qualifying out of the group.”

Can this Liverpool side really pull off a result that would give them a huge boost in the race for a place in the second round?

Yes Brent , the team lifts itself for this occasions.
They did tonight as well (not joking), but are you up to the job? Year 3 and defensively we are shambles. Look at youself in the mirror Brendan. YOU needed, need to learn, raise your game.
Last year, was down to one player . You claimed all the credit, bleached your tetch, got a new girl! Credit there, but I foolishly thought you were developing as a manager……instead you were to busy offering advice to England and calling chums at talk sport.
Brendan , or Davis Brent needs to leave this club. Find his level …. It’s not CL, it’s mid table .
    Wake up people
