Balotelli will have to return to Liverpool to have his injury assessed at the club
According to the Italian media, Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has been sent back to the club after picking up an injury in training with the Italy squad.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the player had suffered an injury to his ‘groin and lower back’ and was sent back to Merseyside by Italy team doctor but the extent of Balotelli’s injury is not yet known and more news will be available once he has been fully assessed back at the club.
After receiving his first call-up since joining Liverpool, Balotelli will no doubt be disappointed to miss out on another cap but with Daniel Sturridge having returned to training this week, it could well be a blessing in disguise – provided the injury isn’t to serious – allowing the players some time to work together on the training ground.
