Kolo Toure was again impressive in the Champions League on Wednesday night

After putting in another good display against Ludogorets on Wednesday night, veteran Liverpool defender Kolo Toure is surely now a shoe-in to get his name on the team-sheet for Saturday’s visit of Stoke City.

With the clamour for him to start prior to the international break, after a man-of-the-match winning display at Madrid it’d be unusual to see Rodgers not provide Toure the opportunity to impress in a Premier League game too.

Speaking with LiverpoolFC.com Kolo said “For me, to play in those big games is so important.

“That’s why I’m here. I just want to help the team. Every time the manager calls on me, I’ll do my best to help the team get a good result.

“We fight as a team. It’s always difficult when you keep losing games. I think we got a reaction tonight. This season has been tough, but when there are tough times, that’s when you see tough people. We’ll keep fighting.”

Having been one of only a handful of players to have shown anything remotely resembling leadership qualities in the last 3 months, it would be a huge step backward for Brendan to revert to an out of form, out of favour (with fans) defender against Stoke.

Should Kolo be given the chance to impress at the weekend, or will Lovren get the recall we all expect him to?
