After joining Liverpool with a very big reputation as an attacking full-back, the youngster has so far scored a goal-of-the-season contender and managed to be one of the sides more likely players to score and assist when getting forward.
Now, having not been able to suitably replace Riise since he left the club, there are big hopes that Alberto Moreno could go on to become the clubs’ first-choice left-back, and one of the best in Europe, for years to come.
Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, the player said “When I was a kid I played more as a winger or a wide attacking midfielder – not as a full-back. But I always like to score goals and above all, provide assists, which is what an attacking full-back has to do.
“As we stand, I’m on one goal and an assist in 12 games, so I think I’m aiming at getting more than five goals and five assists.”
He went on, “I’m also very young and I’ve still got a lot to learn. Playing with these players, I’m bound to learn and also playing in this highly competitive league I’m going to learn a lot also.”
“The fundamental job of a defender is to defend, but at the first opportunity I should get forward and create problems further up the pitch.”
Moreno has every attribute needed to become a top-class full-back and, if utilized to his fullest extent, could prove to be devastating once Liverpool finally begin to find form.
