Sterling will return after the international break and believes the team must improve on their return

Following the clubs’ 5th Premier League defeat of the season, Liverpool are currently sitting in mid-table or, more specifically, languishing in 11th, behind Everton and three times closer to the bottom of the table than league leaders Chelsea.

One of the small bright spots in the current season has been the good form of Raheem Sterling who, himself, has tailed off in recent weeks and he told the Liverpool Echo today that the first-teams’ form needs to improve drastically after the international break. He said “We need to get going after the international break and start winning games to turn this around. Losing hurts, especially losing a big game at home. Every team goes through sticky patches but I’m sure we’ll start climbing the table soon.

“I think there were points in the game when it looked like we would nick a point or even win the game. I thought we played well at times and in patches we produced the kind of football needed to win.

“But Chelsea showed why they are top of the league. When they got chances they were clinical and they defended for their lives. That’s something we need to do – we need to be clinical because that helps you to win games.

“I do think we are playing better football and I’m sure we’ll soon put together a run of wins. We’ve got to pick ourselves up, regroup and go again after the international break.”

If Liverpool are to drag themselves out of their malaise, then Sterling will be a key performer, as will the returning Sturridge who is believed to be fit for the first game back after the break and will hopefully be raring to go after missing the vast majority of the clubs’ games so far.

Will the Reds form pick up after the break and, if so, will Sturridge returning be key to that?
