The Liverpool captain looks set to announce that he is leaving the club tomorrow

It started as mere Twitter rumours and made the rounds on message boards and forums but now legitimate journalists are seemingly confirming those rumours: Liverpool captain and club legend, Steven Gerrard, is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

In the past 5 minutes, the rumours have been confirmed on Twitter by the likes of Tony Barrett of the Times and the Liverpool Echo‘s own James Pearce:

The move is likely to come as a huge shock for many fans, although it’s been a less than stellar 12 months for the captain, who many believe is now in the twilight of his career but any move he does make will be supported by fans and club alike.

We’ll bring you more news, as it comes, but for now it seems almost certain that, from the coming summer at least, Liverpool will have to get used to life without Steven Gerrard and the final member of the famous Champions League winning side of 2005.

Best news I heard all day,he has been playing very poorly now with a while and team stronger without him. I wish he had won the premiership last season, was a great player for liverpool down thru the years.

Liverpool offered him a new 2 year contract , first year reduced to 90k per week and 2nd year 60k per week. I still think he will make an excellent manager someday, hopefully at LFC , Rodgers just plain awful and hope the owners can see that

Great servant of the club, I think badly let down by under achieving managers and rubbish owners down the years. No doubt about it.
