Liverpool Football Club today announced the results of its International Fan Survey, revealing some interesting insights into Reds’ fans from across the world.

The International Fan Survey was made available to online fans in five different languages at the beginning of the 2014-15 season and received over 14,000 responses from fans in151 countries.

The research offers insights into fans’ reasons for following Liverpool FC, what they like most about the Club, how long they have supported the Reds as well as an insight into how many hours a week fans spend following the team. Awareness and usage of the LFC website and social media channels was also analysed, as was interest in programmes such as coaching opportunities in different countries, new online apps for fans, and how fans prefer to purchase merchandise.

Results from the 14,000 respondents showed that at 55%, the historic success of Liverpool FC was the biggest draw for fans to support to the Club. This was closely followed by the Club having some of the respondents’ favourite players, which drew 45% of responses.

History and tradition emerged strongly as the single aspect of the Club most liked by fans, selected by over two thirds of respondents, followed by playing style and players.

Liverpool FC can also boast long-time support from its fans, with 63% of respondents having supported the Club for over 10 years, though a substantial proportion (one sixth of the respondents) having supported LFC for 30 years or more.

LFC fans also spend a number of hours per week following the Club on TV or online, with a significant proportion of respondents (41%) stating they follow the Reds for five hours or more per week.

In terms of the Club’s own digital channels, Liverpool FCs social media platforms displayed very broad reach with nearly nine out of ten of the 14,000 respondents following official Club social media channels, and 70% of those respondents following two or more official accounts. The LFC website and social media content was highly rated, with social media content averaging a rating of 5.6 out of 7.

Engagement was not only on the digital front, with a staggering 87% of UK respondents having visited Anfield, the home of the Reds, at some point in their lifetime.
