According to reports today, LFC have shown some interest in FC Porto’s latest young star, Ruben Neves. The 17 year old Portuguese midfielder has broken into the first team this season, despite a major rebuilding job by current manager Julen Lopetegui.
The young star has lit up the Portuguese league this season, with his incisive passing, confident possession and an in-game intelligence rarely seen in a footballer of such tender years.
Of course, this has all led to much interest across Europe and a number of red tops are linking Liverpool with a move for the player, potentially in the summer transfer window but the reported fee is a hefty one – apparently set at 25 million euros.
There’s not doubt that you have to pay a premium for young talent these days; gone are those days when you could snap up a young player for a couple of million but for a player with barely 20 first team games to his name, with his only experience being in a second tier league, it seems a little obscene but there is no doubt the lad has ability.
Should Liverpool consider the midfielder if he is available, or is that too much on yet another young player with nothing but potential to offer?
