The Swiss star Shaqiri could be a real boost for Brendan Rodgers’ side this January

Reports have been linking Liverpool with a move for Bayern Munich’s Shaqiri seemingly for years now, and Liverpool fans have often seen the Swiss attacker as a viable alternative to Marco Reus, who now appears to be almost certain to sign for either Bayern or Real Madrid.

With a number of fairly legitimate sources claiming that the Reds are now Inter’s only competition for the Bayern star, it would seem that Liverpool are returning to try and tempt Bayern again after having seemingly failed to sign the winger in the summer.

Shaqiri, a player of immense talent, that was one of the stars of last summer’s World Cup, has struggled to nail down a regular place at Bayern but has still managed to score almost 25 goals across 2 1/2 seasons of appearances primarily from the bench and is still just 23 years old.

Since the loss of Luis Suarez has failed to be addressed, Liverpool have struggled on in Daniel Sturridge’s absence and have only recently found a way to get goals but if the rumours are believed to be true, then the Reds have had a bid of 15 million Euros tabled and are due to meet with Shaqiri’s representatives in an attempt to convince the player to join Liverpool instead of Inter.

A manager of Roberto Mancini’s stature may have more of a pull for a player like Shaqiri, whereas we’ve seen Liverpool struggle already this previous summer (even with Champions League football to offer) to attract top stars.

But with the expected loss of Gerrard in the summer and the void still unfilled that Suarez left in 2014, there is a great deal of room for a player of Shaqiri’s quality to step up and really make himself one of Europe’s top players.

Liverpool will no doubt face a huge amount of competition from Inter, with Juventus having reportedly pulled out in favour of signing Sneijder, but hopefully lessons have been learned from last summer and the club will now move fast to ensure any potential transfer for the player is sorted out as quickly as possible.

Could Shaqiri be the star to help Liverpool raise their game, and offer the goals that we’ve missed in the absence of Daniel Sturridge? Let us know your thoughts on these rumours below.
