Brendan Rodgers has stated that Liverpool in all likelihood will be doing very little business in January. However, perhaps in order to spend he needs to sell and so therefore he would remain cautious going into the New Year, as those on the periphery need to be sold, but at a decent price. Then once the money is available he will go out into the market to address some of the major issues with Liverpool at the moment, particularly in goal, defence and at the other end of the pitch.

Fabio Borini, Glen Johnson, Lucas Leiva, even Mario Balotelli and perhaps Dejan Lovren – these players go into January with uncertainty hanging over their Anfield futures, with Borini, Johnson and Balotelli in particular figures who I would like to see depart.

The Reds can still make the top four this season, while they have realistic ambitions of success in the League Cup and Europa League. To achieve any of these aspirations Liverpool need some new blood, even if it is just one face. January is known for being a notoriously hard month for good deals, but there are a multitude of players with expiring contracts and playing time issues who may be available at a far lower price this month than in the summer.

Admittedly Anfield no longer has Champions League football, but hopefully this will only be for the short-term. Certainly, signing any of these players should bring the Reds closer to their goals.

at Liverpool, we only need a striker, a defensive mid and a goalkeeper. the rest of the positions are well covered for.
any striker who attacks defenders like Suarez and with a good finish is alright by me. we can’t rely on sturridge because of his injuries.
we don’t need a new center back. we need BR to accept to get in a defensive coach and our defensive problems will be sorted
