Liverpool fans will have five more years of seeing this sort of thing from little Phil

First announced on social media last night, Philippe Coutinho has signed a new five year contract with Liverpool.

After a fantastic display at the weekend against West Ham, Coutinho appears to have matured a great deal since Christmas and has to only add more regular goals to his game to be ranked as one of the best attacking midfielders around.

Speaking after officially signing, Coutinho told Liverpoolfc.com “I’m really happy. It’s a dream come true playing for this great club and being part of this squad.

“Today I’ve committed my future to the club and for this I’m feeling very pleased.

“This club is great and the fans have always supported me, so I’ve been eager to sign this new deal since conversations started. Today is a very happy day.”

Given that he signed little over two years ago, it’s hard to believe that Coutinho is closing in on 100 games for the club, something he could easily achieve this season, having totted up 81 appearances since signing January 2013. The little magician has scored 10 goals in that time, along with many assists.

But, at just 22, Liverpool have signed up on of the brightest prospects in world football for a large part of the best part of his career and, with Coutinho in tow, the likes of Sterling and Sturridge will hopefully soon follow in signing on at the club.

Are you as over the moon as us that little Phil has signed a new, long-term contract? Let us know how you’re feeling about the news today.
