Following a late, late win over Spurs last night, Liverpool moved to within just three points of the Champions League places and extended the team’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 9, with only the one defeat in the last 15 games in all competitions.

The team’s current form is a far cry from the turgid, slow and depressing stuff the fans were being put through prior to Christmas but the team is very much on the up and the likes of Lallana, Markovic, Ibe, Can and Sakho are showing that the club’s squad strength may run a little deeper than we first realised.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com following last night’s 3-2 win over Tottenham, Lallana said “It was a massive win. I think you could tell by the reaction at the final whistle how big a result and three points it was.

“It puts us in a good position now to carry on and to push for the remaining games of the season and hopefully climb up into the top-four positions.

“It does enormous things for your confidence. Tottenham are a different team to the one that we played on the third day of the season. I watched the game against Arsenal and they definitely deserved to win that.

“They are playing with high pressure and it was an end-to-end game tonight. For the neutral it was probably great to watch and fortunately for us, we came up in the last 15 minutes with good character and got the goal.

“Having the right mentality is massive, especially when you’ve got all these games and you play for a big club like Liverpool.”

With Southampton following cup games against Crystal Palace and Besiktas, and a big game at Anfield against Manchester City following the Europa second leg, Liverpool have a huge run of games coming up and knowing that the team has the likes of Lallana, Balotelli, etc. to come off the bench showed last night that the big games don’t necessarily have to be won by the 11 that start the game and will give the team faith and confidence in themselves over the next few months.
