Coutinho has been a revelation since the turn of the year

When he first signed for Liverpool over 2 years ago, Philippe Coutinho came with a reputation of being something of a special young player. The fact that he was Brazilian only exacerbated expectations and, while it may have taken him a while to live up to those expectations, that is exactly what he has done recently.

After winning a handful of player of the month awards (along with Match of the Day’s goal of the month), Coutinho really started to hit the heights many knew he was capable of over the last few months and has been one of the key instigators in Liverpool’s recent revival. So much so, that the Kop has recently unveiled a new banner dedicated to the young magician.

Speaking in a new LFCTV documentary due to air on Friday evening, Coutinho said: “I felt really honoured.

“I remember we went to the field for our warm-up and the banner was there – it gave me goose bumps. I got really excited and found it really cool.

“It’s very good to receive this warmth from the fans. It makes you want to improve even more, to repay this kind of thing on the field.”

The youngster has been in fine form of late but has yet to truly strike up the partnership he had with Daniel Sturridge when the two first joined the club. But as Sturridge continues his return to full fitness and Coutinho continues to mature, there’s no doubt we’ll see the pair dovetail impressively once again.
