After a pretty demoralizing opening to the season, the Reds finally appear to be finding something approaching the form of last season, with wins and points coming thick and fast. Not to mention 6 clean sheets in the last 8 games and 29 points from a possible 33 since Boxing Day. Had the team not dropped as many needless points earlier in the season, things may have turned out very differently.
But the win against Burnley last night was Liverpool’s twelfth game unbeaten and leaves them the only unbeaten team in the league in 2015 – a statistic to be proud of.
This new look Reds team is currently being ably led by Jordan Henderson, a man often maligned early in his time at the club, but his last two games have demonstrated that he has the capacity to lead the team once the current club captain moves to the US in the summer.
But, like a true captain, Henderson is only interested in the team winning. Believing that personal acclaim come second to the club. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I like to score any type of goal, even if it’s a tap in. It doesn’t really matter as they all count.
“The most important thing is the three points for the team and it was an outstanding performance, right the way from Simon all the way up. Hopefully we can just keep building and keep the momentum going.
“I always want to try and score – and assist as well. As much as I can, I always want to have an influence on the game. But the main thing is we’re really solid as a team and we’ve got fantastic players going forward.
“If we’re solid, we can let them go and do the business up front. Thankfully we got the goals, so it was another pleasing performance.
“It was a big game for us and another big three points, especially after the weekend, and I felt it was a job well done.”
After his recent displays, does Jordan have what it takes to be Liverpool’s next official captain? Let us know your thoughts on that and the game last night.
