Henderson is firm in his belief that the Reds can finish runners-up again

On Sunday morning, Liverpool announced themselves as a real threat to the top-4 with a highly impressive 2-1 win over Man City at Anfield, which left the team just 2 points off fourth and only 7 behind the champions themselves.

While a late run for the Premier League may be out of the question (albeit, not technically speaking), there is still absolutely no reason why the Reds can’t make an end-season charge for the runners-up spot once again.

That is the view of Jordan Henderson, at least, who scored the opening goal against City on Sunday. When asked whether Liverpool could overhaul City at this late stage in the season, Henderson, speaking to the Daily Mail, said: “Listen, it’s always possible. The main thing to do would be to concentrate on ourselves as much as we can, keep the momentum going and see where it takes us really.

‘We have just got to aim to win every game. I think we have got the ability to do that. We have got a good enough squad but we just have to make sure that we don’t get too carried away with the result. But it is a big result and it gives us a lot of confidence. We are going to give it a real go.”

With the matches not letting up at present, Liverpool host Burnley on Wednesday night. A team that ran the team much closer in December than City did on Sunday and the team will be keeping their feet firmly on the ground, knowing that Dyche’s team are not to be taken lightly.
