It’s another one of those rumours that just won’t go away: James Milner moving to Liverpool.
Since December, when the January transfer window was just around the corner, the rumours have been rife that Liverpool will challenge Arsenal in the summer for the signature of James Milner, a player who’s contract expires this year.
Manchester City are believed to have offered the player a new contract but Milner is not yet convinced that he is truly in the current manager’s plans and wants guarantees of regular first-team football at City before committing his future to the club.
According to Sportsmail on Monday, it is believed that the midfielder would prefer to stay at the Etihad, but has reportedly had ‘preliminary’ talks with Inter, AC Milan and Roma, as well as some Spanish sides.
At the age of 29, Milner is somewhere around his peak and wants to be a regular starter, which is presumably something all of the interested clubs would have to offer the player. And, while he would never be considered a replacement for Gerrard, there is no doubt that there is a very large space to fill in the Liverpool side come the summer.
While never a Gerrard replacement, would Milner be a good signing in the summer, especially considering the fee would be next to nothing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Tell me it’s not true. He’s another Downing and not wanted.
