Reports today claim that Liverpool’s out-of-favour right back, Glen Johnson, will sign a pre-contract agreement with Italian side AS Roma in the next 48 hours.
While the news may come as a slight surprise, given that there seemed little interest in Johnson, it will not be greeted with much disappointment by Liverpool fans who have been keen to see the defender moved on for some time.
Reported first Tutto-mercato-web this morning, it is claimed that Johnson has agreed a deal with Roma to sign once his contract at Anfield ends in the summer, with the site claiming ‘market expert’, Sportitalia’s Alfredo Pedulla as the source of these claims.
Johnson had recently made it clear he was keen on a move away from Anfield, and with having already lost his place to the likes of Manquillo and previously Jon Flanagan, the experienced full back has now found himself behind both Jordan Ibe and Lazar Markovic in the right wing back role.
With Liverpool linked to both Dani Alves and Alvaro Arbeloa this week, it appears the club are on the lookout for an experienced full back, which would add some weight to the rumours today.
Would you be sorry to see him go, or should Johnson be moved on as soon as possible?
Good news
I think Liverpool well find someone much better in that right back position and I for one won’t be disappointed when he goes.
