Announcing the summer tour of Malaysia earlier in the week showed what a truly global club Liverpool are, with enormous fan bases in the likes of Australia, the US and Asia and Reds defender, Dejan Lovren, is of the opinion that Liverpool is the biggest club in the world.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lovren said: “It’s great to hear that we’re going far away to visit our fans.
“I’ve heard so many positive things about Asia and Australia. I have never been before so it will be something new for me. It will be a great experience. It’s something I want to see and be a part of.
“We have so many fans there. It will be amazing.
“It’s one of the most important parts of the year as it’s when you build your strength for the season.
“I said when I signed that I had joined the biggest club in the world. I don’t know how many millions of fans we have. But to see all the fans on this tour will be something spectacular. We will enjoy every second with them.”
The Reds’ are already one of the top club sides in world football, with the Champions League win in 2005, and running close for the Premier League last season having only helped enhance a previously ailing reputation and another strong finish to the current season can only ensure that the reception on this summer tour is equally as impressive as previous occasions.
The team will visit Adelaide and Brisbane, as part of a short tour of Australia in July, and will take on a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Friday, July 24.
