Martin confirmed he was fine via Instagram last night

In a very concerning incident early in the match against Blackburn yesterday, Martin Skrtel was stricken on the Anfield pitch. When it became clear that the player hadn’t moved for a number of minutes, you knew it was serious – Martin Skrtel doesn’t usually stay down.

But, in true Skrtel style, he was soon being stretchered from the field, ripping straps off his head and giving the fans a big thumbs-up in recognition of their support and in confirmation that he was OK.

A few hours after the game and Skrtel was taking to his Instagram account to again confirm that he was fine and had, in fact, been keen to play on.

Skrtel said: “Everything is alright. I was unconscious for a bit but glad it is nothing serious.

“I wanted to carry on but fair play to the physios, they didn’t let me – that’s the rules!

“Off for a couple of days with the family. Thanks for all your support. YNWA.”

After such a nasty fall, most players would’ve been happy to be taken off and given a break but Skrtel isn’t that sort of player and he’ll no doubt be back in action after a short rest with his family.
