Contrary to many reports in the past few weeks, Ian Ayre has reiterated the club’s stance that star winger Raheem Sterling is going nowhere in the summer and will remain at Anfield for a number of years yet.
The 20 year old has rejected a couple of contract offers from Liverpool in recent months, the most recent being for a reported £100,000 per week, and went as far as to give an unsanctioned interview to the BBC regarding the subject of his future, which only further fueled the anger of many Liverpool fans.
But quoted in a number of national dailies, Liverpool chief executive, Ian Ayre, has said that he doesn’t see Sterling going anywhere for the foreseeable future. He said: “Raheem’s agent has asked that we park all discussions regards his future until the summer. We respect that.
“Raheem is a Liverpool player and has over two years left on his contract. We expect Raheem Sterling to be here for a long time.”
The young attacker is currently having his most successful season to date, scoring 13 goals in all competitions, with 8 assists and was believed to have been being monitored by the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid. But his recent indiscretions may have strengthened Liverpool’s position in keeping the player by warding off a number of these suitors and, if Ian Ayre is to be believed, Sterling won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
