Philippe Coutinho has been the Reds’ star man for the best part of the last 4 months but forĀ March, he was beaten to the Standard Chartered player of the month award by Jordan Henderson.
The Reds’ stand-in captain had a couple of struggles against Arsenal and Manchester United but managed 3 goals in his 5 games throughout the month and showed that he looks like he has what it takes to replace Gerrard when the Liverpool legend departs in the summer.
Henderson has been an ever present all season for the Reds, managing to take part in an incredible 49 goals across all competitions this season, along with 13 assists, he has amassed 8 goals for the season so far.
Speaking at Melwood after receiving the award, Henderson said: “Thank you to the fans for all your support.
“There have been some good performances from the team and I managed to get on the scoresheet a few times as well, which was nice.
“But there were a couple of disappointing ones as well, so it was a bit mixed. But hopefully we can kick on from now until the end of the season, put that right and finish as high as we can.
“The top four is still realistic. It will be difficult, we’re four points behind and City are a good side.
“So it will be difficult, but if we can win most of our games and put a little bit of pressure on them you never know what can happen. Hopefully we can do that.”
The award will be a timely boost for the Liverpool midfielder, as the Reds’ go into their FA Cup semi final against Aston Villa tomorrow and Henderson will be expected to put in a big display for his team, as Liverpool bid to win their first trophy under Rodgers.
