Liverpool midfield star, Joao Teixeira will miss the rest of the season with a broken leg

As if the first team themselves haven’t suffered enough injuries this season, now one of the club’s most promising young stars has been ruled out for the season after suffering a broken leg whilst on loan at Brighton.

The Liverpool star was having another impressive game against Huddersfield, before being stretchered off, having broken his leg just above the ankle.

The young midfielder had been having a stellar season on loan at the South coast side, playing 35 times so far and scoring 6 goals, with 4 assists. It will come as a bitter blow to both the player and his parent and loan clubs, who had high hopes for the midfielder for the remainder of the season, as well as his future at Anfield.

A confident young Portuguese play-maker, who many have compared to Phil Coutinho, Teixeira recently spoke to the Guardian about his belief that he has what it takes to break into the Liverpool side next season.

He said: “I came to Brighton to become more mature and get more experience, and hopefully next year I will be playing for Liverpool. That is my dream.

“I need to finish the season here and then I’ll go to Liverpool on May 2.

“I will be there for two more weeks and train so I can keep fit for the Euros. I will also have time to speak to the manager about my future.”

Does Teixeira have what it takes to make the step up into the senior side next season, following his recovery? Let us know your thoughts below.

Misleading headline David. I saw out for the season and immediately thought you where talking about next season as there are only a few games left of the present one. It left me wondering how bad the break was. Sensational headlines are fine but not at the expense of frightening the life out of the supporters.

Why did you think the headline meant next season as well. I read it that he’s out for the current season no matter how many games are left.
