Sturridge may be fit to start against Arsenal on Saturday

According to Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool stars Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana could well be fit in time for the 12:45 kick-off against Arsenal on Saturday morning.

After scoring Liverpool’s consolation goal against Manchester United late on last month, Sturridge didn’t appear the same for the rest of the match and was later confirmed to have picked up a knock.

Meanwhile, Adam Lallana was on the receiving end of a series of robust challenges during the same match and had to be withdrawn at half-time after 45 minutes of rough treatment.

However, speaking to the associated press today at Melwood, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he is hopeful to have both fit and in the match squad come Saturday.

He said: “Daniel is back training with the team today. We’ll see the reaction of that tomorrow.

“It’s a game we will want to get something from. In terms of the objectives going into the game, it’s no different to what it was before Manchester United, but of course we had a disappointing result and performance last time out.

“We really want to make sure we perform and give ourselves a chance to get a positive result.

“The team is coming along fine. The squad have been away, some of them coming back from internationals, and they’re fine.

“Jordan Henderson is back in and Lucas Leiva is back fit and available to come in from the start. The squad is good.

“Adam will hopefully be training with the team tomorrow and available for the weekend.”

With Jordan Henderson declared fit and Lucas Leiva having played near enough a full match during the All-Star charity game last Sunday, looks likely to feature, even confirming himself this week that he feels completely fit and ready to start.

With a near enough full squad to choose from, it will be a very different game from what it appeared it would be after the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United two weeks ago.
